2012 Regional Arts Australia National Conference: Kumuwuki / Big Wave wrap-up01.11.2012
Regional Arts NSW and a number of fellow regional arts boards have just returned from a series of inspiring presentations and workshops at the 2012 Regional Arts Australia national conference, held in Goolwa, SA from October 17-22. The Kumuwuki / Big Wave conference offered delegates more than 80 panel sessions and workshops exploring the themes of art, culture and resilience. Highlights included the Hon. Simon Crean MP announcing Newcastle will host a national arts conference in March 2013. At the Saturday plenary, Ngarrindjeri elder Tom Trevorrow spoke about Ngarrindjeri people working with government agencies and natural resource managers to improve local marine and land areas. The village atmosphere of the Ngarrindjeri sharing circle, plus the disability-led digital workshops ScrLk, were a great way for delegates to get involved in conference activities. Thanks to all of the organisers and volunteers who made Kumuwuki such a success. Also a big congratulations to Merrill Findlay, who was awarded the NSW Regional Arts Australia award. With such a jam-packed program this year, the team at Regional Arts NSW is looking forward to what’s in store for the 2014 national conference.
