Arts OutWest secures Aboriginal arts program funding01.07.2012
Arts OutWest has gained a grant from the Federal Government through the Department of Health and Ageing to deliver a region-wide arts and health program, addressing issues of chronic disease in the Aboriginal community. Spread the Word will be delivered by working in partnership with the Aboriginal Health Unit and the Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Strategy (AMIHS). It will involve a variety of artforms to help educate people about chronic disease and encourage healthy lifestyles. The program will train Aboriginal artists in graphic design, film, animation and hip hop. It will also work with pregnant Aboriginal women and young mothers through belly-casting and other artwork. The project will operate in 10 centres across the Central West. Three feature events will bring the community together to share the work and further extend the messages about health.
